My most starred GitHub repo is also my least technical project

Scraped levels.fyi for top-paying companies during a job search. Front page of HN, 700 GitHub stars.

I was job searching and wanted a quick list of companies that pay well. So I wrote a scraper that hit the levels.fyi sitemap, visited every company page, and extracted the median total compensation. Logged it to console, looked at the output, and thought that other people might find this interesting.

It was not a serious or reliable analysis at all. Just a fun scraping project.

GitHub repo showing the ranked list of highest paying software companies

I posted it on Hacker News / Reddit and it hit the front page. 122 points, 81 comments, and 700+ GitHub stars. My most starred repo — for what is the least serious/technical thing I've ever shipped.
